motherhood on film: a workshop with elizabeth messina

I have admired the work of Elizabeth Messina since my first year at the Art Institute in Philadelphia, when my professor shared her work as an example of how wedding photography had the potential to be more than photojournalism - it could be art. I fell in love with her eye for composition and light, and her seemingly effortless capture of portraiture.

Over the summer, I had the unique opportunity to attend a small workshop of women, honing their craft of capturing the sacred months of impending motherhood. The images I captured there sparked a passion, and pushed me in a certain direction. I knew the way that I captured motherhood was about to change forever.
